Telegram AI assistant: the two kinds and how to set one up

«AI assistant in Telegram» is two different products: an AI you chat with, and one that answers your customers. Telling them apart — and setting up the second.

AdminHub

TL;DR. «Telegram AI assistant» names two products that share nothing but the phrase. One answers you — ChatGPT-style bots you chat with; Telegram has plenty, and they are not this page. The other answers your customers: from your knowledge base, in your bot’s chats and — through Telegram Business — in your personal account’s chats, under your name. It carries twelve tools, two of which act rather than talk, costs 2 credits a reply, and steps aside for an hour whenever you answer manually. This page is about setting up the second kind — and knowing which one you actually came for.

Search for an AI assistant for Telegram and half the results are bots you talk to, half are bots that talk for you. The pages rarely say which they are. People install one, needed the other, and conclude the whole category is hype.

The category is fine. The name is broken.

Two products, one phrase

The personal kind answers you. You ask it to write, translate, summarize a thread. It is a chat window to a model, living inside Telegram. There are plenty of these, some good — and if that is what you came for, this page will only waste your time politely.

The business kind answers your customers. It reads your materials, watches your orders and bookings, and replies while you sleep — in dozens of languages, from what you actually wrote, escalating to you when it is out of its depth.

Everything below is the second kind.

Where it answers — including as you

In your bot’s chats, first: anyone who messages the bot gets answers there. That is the storefront’s front desk.

The less obvious place is your own account. Connected through Telegram Business, the assistant answers in your personal chats — buyers write to you, the reply comes under your name. Two honest boundaries hold there: only your own creator bot can be connected, a foreign bot’s connection is silently ignored; and the answers are Pro — on Free the connection works, but the agent stays quiet. The full path is in how to connect a bot to your Telegram account.

And one behavior that matters more than any feature: after you reply to a customer manually, the assistant stays silent in that chat for exactly one hour. A constant, not a setting. You take a conversation over by simply typing — it never argues with you in front of a customer.

It knows what you feed it

The assistant does not come knowing your prices. The knowledge base takes nine source types — a website crawl, pasted text, CSV, PDF, DOCX, Notion, YouTube, voice recordings and manual entries — and what to feed first is a craft of its own: the knowledge base, fed right.

The part that keeps it honest over time is the gaps list. Every question the assistant could not answer confidently is logged, so «what should I add» stops being a guess and becomes a weekly ten-minute read.

Saying is half. Doing is the other half

A chat-only assistant answers «where is my order» with sympathy. This one carries twelve tools: ten of them look things up — orders, bookings, products, subscription status — and two of them write: cancelling a booking, and filing a callback request. Both only with the customer’s explicit confirmation, because an assistant that acts without asking is a liability, not a feature.

That split — ten read, two write, confirmation on the writes — is the honest shape of what AI should be allowed to do with your money in 2026. The deeper mechanics, including when it hands the chat to you, are in AI customer support on Telegram.

What it costs, in numbers you can check

A reply costs 2 credits, from the one pool every AI feature shares. Free includes 30 credits a month — about fifteen replies, if nothing else spends the pool. Pro is 400 Telegram Stars per 30 days and carries 500 credits — roughly two hundred and fifty replies on the same arithmetic.

No per-seat pricing and no per-conversation surcharge: the meter is the credit pool, and the pricing page is the whole price list.

The boundaries, named

  • No voice, no telephony. Not a smaller version — an absence. Text in, text out.
  • One agent per workspace. Enforced in the database, not in the interface. One brain, one tone, all your channels.
  • It is not the personal kind. It will not summarize your reading list or draft your posts — that job lives with the personal bots, and pretending otherwise would sell you the wrong product.
  • It escalates. When it cannot answer confidently, or the customer asks for a person, the chat comes to you — with the history attached.

One evening, in order

Add ten to twenty answers to the knowledge base — your real most-asked questions, not the ones you wish were asked. Write to your own bot and interrogate it like a difficult customer. Connect Telegram Business if you want it answering as you, and check the gaps list after the first real week — it will name the next ten answers better than any plan.

How the agent answers and escalates — AI customer support on Telegram. What to feed it — the knowledge base. The personal-account connection — connect a bot to your account. Against a dedicated support-bot builder — Chatbase alternatives. The tool page — AI support. Sorting the wider category, including the content kind — Telegram AI bot: three different things.

What people usually ask

What is the difference between a personal AI bot and a business AI assistant?
Direction. A personal bot answers you: you ask, it writes, summarizes, translates. A business assistant answers your customers, from your materials, while you do something else. They share the phrase «AI assistant» and almost nothing else — and most disappointment in this category comes from installing one while needing the other.
Where does the assistant answer?
Two places. In your bot's own chats — anyone who writes to the bot gets answers there. And, connected through Telegram Business, in your personal account's chats: buyers write to you as a person, the assistant answers under your name. Only your own creator bot can be connected there, and the connection is Pro.
What does it know?
What you feed it. The knowledge base takes nine source types — a website crawl, pasted text, CSV, PDF, DOCX, Notion, YouTube, voice recordings and manual entries. Questions it could not answer land in a gaps list, so every week you can see exactly what to add.
Can it act, or only chat?
It carries twelve tools, and two of them write rather than read: cancelling a booking and filing a callback request — both only with the customer's confirmation. The other ten look things up: orders, bookings, products, subscriptions. So «where is my order» gets an answer from your actual data, not a guess.
What does a reply cost?
A reply costs 2 credits, from the same pool as every AI feature. Free includes 30 credits a month — about fifteen replies if nothing else spends. Pro is 400 Telegram Stars per 30 days and carries 500 credits.
What can it not do?
Voice and telephony do not exist here at all — not a smaller version, an absence. There is exactly one agent per workspace. And after you answer a customer manually, the assistant stays silent in that chat for exactly one hour — a constant, not a setting — so it never talks over you.
